Yoga Milton Keynes classes generally start with simple poses or asanas and gradually move towards more advanced asanas, ending in relaxation. Asanas are always practised in specific sequences for maximum effect.
Breathing techniques enable students to maximise the effect of calmness, increased energy and also help to tone the circulatory, digestive, nervous and respiratory systems.
Students are required to place great emphasis on the correct alignment of the body, as well as often intense stretching techniques, working at their own level and ably assisted by a professionally qualified teacher.
Iyengar Yoga is ideally suited to working slowly at your own pace and building up your skills gradually over time.
Many of the exercises support the reversal of the aging process when consistently practised.
There is a long tradition in India of using yoga to cure or alleviate illness or injury, so don’t worry about coming if you are unwell or in pain. Make sure you have been medically assessed and ask your teacher to modify your practice to enhance your recovery.
Expect to be relaxed by the gentle, calming movements that are the focus of our Tai Chi classes. Slow exercises and balancing positions also help to increase your stamina and strength. As you learn to combine movements with correct breathing techniques, you will build your ‘qi’ (vital energy) and bring your body into total alignment with nature, your surroundings and the universe in general. It is these combined effects that will lead to you benefiting from improved levels of health throughout your lifetime.
And it’s not just about exercises that everyone does individually. ‘Push Hands’ is a two-person drill focusing on your opponent’s strength and internal force. The drill is accomplished by yielding and re-directing your opponent’s internal force. There are many variations of this drill, and all great fun!
Tai Chi routines are not strenuous so do not require special flexibility or strength. As movements are low impact and put minimal pressure on joints, it is well suited to those who may have some physical limitations.
Like all exercise, commitment is necessary for you to see health benefits, but enjoyment and relaxation are always guaranteed. So make a date to visit one of our classes or try one of our outdoor workshops.
Pilates classes focus on our ‘Neutral spine’ – that is the natural position of our spine when all body parts are in good alignment.
Our spine is made up of a number of cervical and lumbar inter-vertebral discs which are interdependent and support each other to maintain a healthy natural curve and flexibility, and to promote good posture. When any disc becomes misaligned, as often happens in accidents or injury, this can also affect the other discs. In our classes, we therefore focus on exercises which help us to maintain the optimal alignment for our neutral spine.
Exercises help to strengthen each vertebra in correcting alignment, and thereby reducing stress on the surrounding tissues of the spine and on intervertebral discs.
By making these corrections – which start from the head, through to shoulders, thorax, spine and down to the pelvis— correct posture is achieved, and a strengthened spine often brings relief from back problems.
While Pilates is not a substitute for professional medical treatment for back conditions, the discipline is undoubtedly a route to maintaining a healthy spine and posture.
Our Pilates programme supports the principle of always working at your own level and to your own ability. Moha ensures that every student gets the support they need in class and, in line with Pilates principles, that they maintain the correct technique for each exercise. Professional instruction means that students concentrate on quality of exercises rather than quantity of exercises.
Are you currently spending long hours sitting in front of a computer, or doing desk work? If your answer is yes, then don’t hesitate, join one of our Pilates classes and experience the difference.
